DANIEL ROWLAND

The playing of Dutch / English violinist Daniel Rowland was hailed as "wonderful, fascinating in its finesse" by The Guardian, "totally and truly charismatic" by Beeld, while The Herald praised his "amazing sound and intensity. unique and determined ". Daniel has established himself on the international stage as a highly versatile, charismatic and adventurous performer. His concert performances in 2018 included Philip Glass with the Orchester de Picardie, at the Kuhmo Festival, the Lindberg Concerto in Joensuu, Berg in Dusseldorf, the Stift Festival, Bernstein with the Princeton and Columbus Symphony Orchestras and finally with the Vivaldi / Piazzolla seasons in Dublin. In early 2019 Daniel appears with the Orquesta Sinfónica del Principado de Asturias, returns to Finland as a soloist in Schnittke and Schumann, and performs the Michiel van der Aa Concerto in Mexico and Philip Glass in Szczecin, Poland. He has performed in many of the most prestigious concert halls in the world, most notably the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Carnegie Hall in New York, the Royal Albert Hall in London, the Glinka Hall in St. Petersburg and the Gulbenkian in Lisbon. He has collaborated with famous directors such as Andrei Boreiko, Djanzug Khakidze, Viktor Liberman, Lawrence Foster, Heinz Holliger, Francois Xavier Roth, Bernhard Gueller and Jaap van Zweden. Passionate chamber musician, Daniel has performed with artists as diverse as Ivry Gitlis, Polina Leschenko, Heinz Holliger, Dawn Upshaw, Gilles Apap, Alexander Lonquich, Priya Mitchell, Marcelo Nisinman, Michael Collins, Nicolas Daniel, Lars Vogt, Willard White and Elvis Costello. He is a frequent guest at major international chamber music festivals such as Kuhmo, Stellenbosch, Risor, Sonoro, Beethoven Festival Chicago, Rio de Janeiro, Chiemgau, Osnabrück and Oxford. The Stift International Music Festival, of which he is founder and artistic director, saw its fourteenth edition in August 2018. Daniel forms an acclaimed recital duo with pianist Natacha Kudritskaya. Their recording 'Les Années folles' (Ravel, Debussy, Poulenc, Gershwin & Antheil) for Gutman Records was released in June 2015, followed by their Enescu violin / piano record for Champs Hill Records in November 2016 and featuring a new Franck / Chausson release coming soon. Daniel with the superb Serbian / French cellist Maja Bogdanovic regularly perform together as a duo, with engagements in the United States and many major European festivals. Daniel is also one of the founding members of the "ChamberJam" contemporary tango quintet. Since May 2007 he is the first violinist of the renowned Brodsky, leaving in May 2019 to focus on his solo career. He is a violin professor at the Royal College of Music in London and an International Visiting Artist at the RIAM in Dublin. He plays the Guarneri del Gesù “Ex-Rode” violin (Cremona ca. 1736), kindly loaned by the Dutch Musical Instruments Foundation. Daniel was born in London and began his violin lessons in Enschede after his parents moved to Twente in the eastern Netherlands. He studied with Jan Repko, Davina van Wely, Herman Krebbers, Viktor Liberman and Igor Oistrakh. The meeting with Ivry Gitlis in 1995 was of great importance, bringing lessons to Paris and, subsequently, to musical collaborations. Daniel's competition successes include first prize in the 1995 Oskar Back competition at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and the Brahms Prize in Baden-Baden.

 

FLOOR LE COULTRE - Assistant to Daniel Rowland 

was recognized as a Young Musical Talent Netherlands in 2011 and completed her studies in 2014 with a distinction for “compelling musicianship” as a student of, among others, Ilona Sie Dhian Ho and Pavel Vernikov. She has established herself as a passionate and communicative musician, has won many prizes and performed all over Europe, China, South Korea, South America and the USA. In addition, Floor is a much sought-after chamber musician in various permanent ensembles (including the Hermitage Quartet and duo LeCoultre & VanHees) and during festivals such as the Stift Festival, Peter de Grote Festival and Thy Chamber Music Festival in Denmark. She has performed as a soloist with various orchestras and since 2012 Floor has regularly worked with ensembles such as Amsterdam Sinfonietta and Ludwig. Floor plays a French violin by Pierre Silvestre (1858), kindly lent to her by the Dutch National Music Instrument Foundation. Her viola di lei was made by Matthieu Legros in 2014. The purchase of the viola was made possible by the foundation 'Stichting Eigen Muziekinstrument'.
