  Musical instrument: workshop for violin players

Biography:

Italian conductor and violinist Carlo Grandi has performed internationally as both a classical and baroque musician and he has been hailed by critics as “a pillar of life to the fullest, reminiscent of Toscanini” for his performance of Beethoven’s First Symphony in Russia with the St. Petersburg Academic Capella Orchestra. He appears regularly in Austria, Hungary and in Italy with the Orchestra Accademici de “la Fenice” and has collaborated with world-famous soloists such as Giuliano Carmignola, Beatrice Antonioni, Romina Basso and Bruno Cavallo. As a guest artist, he has taught several master classes for young musicians in Europe and many of his students have won prestigious prizes at national and international competitions. A native of Trieste (Italy), he grew up in a family of musicians. His first violin teacher was his father Rodolfo Grandi, who studied with Georg Kulenkampff. He graduated at the Benedetto Marcello Conservatory of Music in Venice with Giuliano Carmignola. After attending violin master classes with Franco Gulli and Michael Frischenschlager at the Vienna Musikhochschule, he graduated in orchestral conducting with Francesco Mander. At an early age Carlo Grandi won many competitions and awards such as the “Rassegna Nazionale di Vittorio Veneto”, the “International Competition for Young Violinist” in Gorizia and the “Città di Genova” National Competition, where he won the first prize for his chamber music performance. Recently he was awarded a Prize from the city of Gorizia for his “outstanding musical achievements”.
